During our day of Thracian heritage exploration, we will have the chance to admire the picturesque landscape, which obviously was highly valued by the Thracians as well. The region of the Valley of the Thracian Kings, also known as the Valley of the roses (center for the production of rose oil) was preferred burial ground for the Thracian nobility. This practice bequeathed us about 1,300 tumuli, from which approximately 300 are excavated. The most famous one is the Thracian tomb of Kazanlak, recognized as a masterpiece of the Thracian artwork. The tomb dates from the end of the 4th century BC, and due to its well preserved and original frescoes, it has been listed as UNESCO world heritage site. Another site that we will visit is the Tomb of Seuthes III (Thracian king), known also as Golyama Kosmatka mound. The tomb dates from 5th century BC. It consists of three chambers and one corridor. Many valuable artifacts – works of art were found at the site. It’s one of the richest Thracian burials found till now. The last stop will be the Ostrusha tomb, which dates from the 4th century. It’s mainly famous for its unique ceiling- a combination of relief and fine decoration - different portraits, colorful figures, and floral ornaments. What's included? During this day tour, you will be able to visit one of the must-see places in Bulgaria, not surprisingly elected European Capital of Culture for 2019, as well as two of the highlights in the region - Asen's fortress and Bachkovo Monastery. The tour starts with pick up from your hotel/accommodation in Sofia. After approximately an hour and a half drive, we will reach Plovdiv. Plovdiv is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. The city has cultural and economic significance both in the past and in the present due to its strategic location. Pieces of evidence of its millennial history can be found all over the place – from the Roman Theatre to the Ottoman mosques. This is the reason why Plovdiv is one of the most charming sights in Bulgaria- wherever you look, you will find history, a legend from a different period, traces of a glorious past, and at the same time, it’s a pleasure to see how vivid it still is and how it continues to develop and write its new history. There we will visit the highlights – the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium, and have a walk in the Old Town with typical for the Revival Period house museums, and narrow cobblestone streets. Afterward, we will have lunch. Asen's fortress When we are done with our traditional Bulgarian lunch, we will head towards the final destination of the tour – Asenova Fortress (approx. 25 min drive from Plovdiv). Asen's Fortress is situated on the top of a cliff in Rodopi Mountain, at approx. 20 km distance from Plovdiv. It is a Medieval fortress with a rich history and breathtaking view. Bachkovo monastery After feasting our eyes on the beauties of nature, we will drive to the Bachkovo monastery. This is the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria and one of the oldest. It was established in the late XI century by a man from Georgia. The monastery later became part of the Bulgarian church. It suffered a lot from the turbulence of the time and has kept a lot of history and drama. What's included? Day Tour to Lovech, Devetaki cave & Krushuna waterfalls from Sofia

Escape the bustling streets of Sofia and step into a world where nature and history collide. Imagine a day where you walk through massive caverns that have sheltered humans for millennia, relax by the emerald waters of enchanting waterfalls, and gaze out from the ramparts of a medieval fortress. This tour isn't just a sightseeing trip; it’s a journey into the heart of Bulgaria’s most breathtaking landscapes and ancient legends. Your day of adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your Sofia hotel before we embark on a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive to our first stop: the spectacular Devetaki Cave. This massive, naturally lit cavern has a fascinating history. Home to prehistoric humans, it later served as a natural Roman food refrigerator and a secret Cold War military base. Movie fans might also recognize its grand arches from the Hollywood blockbuster The Expendables 2. Next, we visit the ethereal Krushuna Waterfalls, Bulgaria’s largest travertine cascade. Famous for its emerald-blue pools and lush forest setting, the falls are breathtaking year-round. Even in the summer when water levels naturally drop, the vibrant, mossy rock terraces remain a beautiful sight. After working up an appetite, we will head to the historic town of Lovech for a delicious local lunch. From there, we will explore the town's highlights, starting with a walk across the famous 19th-century Covered Bridge—the only one of its kind in the Balkans. We will finish our tour by climbing up to the impressive Medieval Fortress, which offers panoramic views of the city and river below. Filled with history and unforgettable scenery, we will then relax on the drive back, dropping you off at your Sofia accommodation in the evening. What's included?
