This trip takes you through the Fukuchani ruins and caves. The Fukuchani Ruins are near the edge of the Fukuchani village and are the remnants of a 16th-century coral rubble house. The ruins date back to the 16th century, but it is believed that there was a Shirazi settlement located here beforehand, and the remaining structure was constructed by the Portuguese. You will then proceed to Nungwi for the village tour. In Nungwi, there are several very interesting things to see and do, including the natural aquarium, which is home to endangered sea turtles and a variety of fish. The aquarium itself is a natural formation carved out of the coral bedrock by the erosion of millions of waves crashing against the shore. The depth of the water rises and falls with the tides, providing a natural environment for its inhabitants. As you watch the white sails of the Dhows pass by, you might wonder how these impressive boats are made. The Nungwi Boat Yard offers an engaging (pun intended) experience where you'll meet the shipyard owner and learn about how the dhows are built—from sourcing the wood to the joints used and how they are launched. Highlights of the Tour: • Visit a site where local villagers build dhows and boats using traditional tools. • Explore Fukuchani caves and ruins • Discover Zanzibar's dhow-building capital • Visit and swim at Mnarani Natural Aquarium (Turtle Sanctuary) • Relax on a wide beach lined with palm trees
